bossy pants

3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)

I thought I was going to like this audioΒ memoirΒ a little bit more than I actually did, so I was a touch disappointed. However it was still enjoyable.

Tina Fey, American comedian and writer, tells of her life from awkward child and teenager, to successful producer and star of the hit show 30 Rock.

I like Tina Fey. I like 30 Rock (although have not watched many episodes) and I had heard this audio book was AMAZINGLY funny. Β But I’m not sure if it was just because of the American humour, but I just didn’t LOVE it. I enjoyed that Tina Fey narrated it herself. I don’t think anyone else would have been appropriate anyway. However I felt that some of it was quite dry. Especially at the beginning.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some extremely funny laugh out loud moments. I especially liked towards the end when she was talking about being a mother and toying with the idea of having another baby at 40. I suppose I could relate to that stuff a bit more than the rest (Not that I’m quite 40, but I am a mother…). And it was certainly an interesting glimpse into comedy writing and the difficulty of putting together a TV show. However a lot of it, not being too familiar with the different people involved in the show or SNL which we don’t even get on TV over here (unless you download or pay for it) just went in one ear and out the other. Also a lot of the political stuff went over my head too because it just didn’t interest me.

I thought the chapters were put together well, each one was like a different funny story. And I loved her sarcasm.Β I really enjoyed it, I can’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t like it more to be honest.

Would I recommend it? Yes Bossy Pants was certainly worth reading, or in my case listening to. It had some extremely funny moments and overall was very interesting.

I found the same thing, It was a fun book, but not as funny as you’d think Tina Fey’s memoir should be. Definitely not the laugh riot I was led to think it was!

Yeah exactly!! I want to read Amy Poelhler’s one too “Yes Please”, but I’m afraid its going to be much the same! Although the audio version features Patrick Stewart so it cant be too bad πŸ˜‰
